One out of every three households in Korea now raises a pet. As the number of pets increases, it has become important that their owners show proper knowledge and attitude about their beloved animals. To encourage this, the Seoul Metropolitan Government created the Pet Owners’ Ability Test. It measures the ability and qualifications of Korean dog owners. The government introduced the written portion of the test in 2019. This year, it added a performance evaluation for the first time. A total of 6,000 pet owners took the online written test in October. The questions tested their knowledge about pet diseases, animal protection laws, and “petiquette,” or good social manners regarding pets. Then, 50 finalists proceeded to the performance test at Seodaemun Culture and Sports Hall* on November 13. The pet owners teamed up with their pets to complete six courses. They carried out different tasks, including waiting in front of a crosswalk and changing directions. The pet owners who passed all six courses were given the title of “petizen.” They and their well-trained pet dogs were also awarded various prizes. * Seodaemun Culture and Sports Hall 서대문 문화체육회관 |
