American music magazine Billboard is best known for its weekly charts which measure the popularity of songs and albums in the United States. Among its 35 music charts, the most significant are the Billboard Hot 100 for the top singles and the Billboard 200 for the top albums.

This year has already been an extraordinary one for K-pop musicians on the Billboard 200. From January to October, over a dozen Korean music acts have had their albums ranked on the prestigious chart.

The following are three K-pop groups that have recently released albums and made waves on the Billboard 200.

Blackpink

In September, Blackpink released their second full-length album, titled “Born Pink.” Then, in the first week of October, the album topped the Billboard 200 by selling over 102,000 copies in the U.S.

With this achievement, Blackpink became the first Korean girl group to reach the top of the Billboard 200. The quartet is also just the fourth K-pop act to do so, following boy bands BTS, SuperM, and Stray Kids.

Stray Kids

Formed in 2017, Stray Kids have been active in the music scene for five years. However, the eight-member boy band made tremendous strides in 2022, releasing two massively successful EPs.*

In March, Stray Kids released “Oddinary,” a collection of seven tracks. Seven months later, the octet put out the four-song mini album, “Maxident.” Amazingly, both albums reached number one on the Billboard 200.

Twice

Popular girl group Twice released its mini album, “Between 1&2,” and reached the third spot on the Billboard 200 in mid-September. Over its seven-year career, the nine-member group has had five albums on the famous U.S. music chart.

Moreover, the nonet became the first K-pop group to top Billboard Artist 100. The chart considers various categories, including album sales, radio airplay, and streaming, to measure an artist’s overall popularity
