Kimchi Promoted Worldwide
작성자  : 관리자
Over the past decade, kimchi has come to be globally recognized for its taste and health benefits. The export of the Korean side dish reached 180 billion won in 2021. In addition, kimjang, or the skill of making kimchi, was designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity* by UNESCO in 2013.

In light of this growing popularity, the Korean government officially declared November 22 as Kimchi Day. The holiday aims to promote Korea’s spicy cabbage more widely and foster its business abroad.

In fact, Kimchi Day has even begun to be celebrated overseas. In 2021, it was officially recognized by Argentina and parts of the United States, including California, New York, and Washington D.C.

On top of Kimchi Day, other events were recently held to internationally endorse the side dish. On October 10, Korean professor Seo Kyoung-duk worked with local kimchi brand Jongga to organize a kimchi ad campaign.

As a result, their advertisement for kimchi appeared on a major electronic billboard in New York City’s Times Square. The video of foreigners eating the spicy cabbage ran for four weeks.

The same kimchi brand has also been teaming up with Le Cordon Bleu, a top French culinary school. Together, they annually host kimchi-themed cooking contests, in which hundreds of entrants create new recipes, such as kimchi curry and kimchi waffles.

The competitions are held in France, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
