New Tech to Enhance Our Sight
작성자  : 관리자
Researchers in Korea have been creating technology that can be used to enhance our everyday experience. Some of these technological advancements may one day change the way people see the world.

AR Contact Lenses

Recently, teams of Korean researchers were successful in making a new kind of smart contact lenses. The device can be worn like regular contact lenses and be used to connect to the world of augmented reality (AR).

The lenses were developed jointly by researchers at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST)* and the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI).* The lenses have fully integrated AR displays, so that digital words and images can overlap with the real world.

The researchers used a new 3D printing method and special chemicals to produce “micro-patterns,” which were small and thin enough to imprint on the lenses.

When tested, the contact lenses succeeded in displaying GPS information to the user in real time. The device also used very little energy to implement its AR technology.

Glasses for the Visually Impaired

The tech giant, Samsung Electronics, is currently testing out a wearable device. The device, named Relumino, may help visually impaired people to see smartphone and TV screens.

The wearable device looks like a pair of fashionable sunglasses. It operates by utilizing virtual reality (VR)* technology that connects to smartphones through a special app.

Through the Relumino app, smartphone information is transmitted into the glass display of the device. This way, people with low vision can access texts and images without looking at their smartphone screen.

In addition, the wearable device has a camera that can scan the wearer’s surroundings. The object-recognition feature of the smartphone app then sends the information to the device’s display.

For its trial run, Samsung Electronics recently distributed Relumino devices for free to 30 people with low vision in Gyeonggi Province.
